TAG Heuer Brings Monaco Back to the Front Line

Few timepieces carry the cultural weight of the TAG Heuer Monaco. When it launched in 1969, its bold square case and left-side crown broke convention.

Two years later, it became a cinematic legend on Steve McQueen’s wrist in Le Mans, alongside his Gulf-liveried Porsche 917K and racing suit.

This year, TAG Heuer honours that legacy with the Monaco Chronograph x Gulf—a striking limited edition of just 971 pieces.

The number pays tribute to 1971, the year Le Mans was released. Echoing the original, the watch features a finely textured silver dial with vertical Gulf racing stripes, the vintage Heuer logo, and the distinctive left-positioned crown.

It’s powered by the Calibre 11 movement, faithful to the pioneering spirit of the original.

Crafted from lightweight, sandblasted grade 2 titanium, the 39mm case nods to the rugged precision of racing machinery.

The strap, made from fire-resistant Nomex®, the same material worn by McQueen on set, cements its motorsport credentials. A blue perforated leather strap offers a refined alternative.

Coinciding with TAG Heuer’s new title sponsorship of the Monaco Grand Prix, this edition captures the essence of what Monaco has always stood for: daring design, racing heritage, and timeless style.
