In the high-stakes world of Formula 1, timing is everything, and now it’s on the wrist, in more ways than one.

H. Moser & Cie. has unveiled a bold new duo in partnership with Alpine Motorsports: one watch for the driver, one for the pit crew, and both designed to push boundaries in their direction.

The release includes the Streamliner Alpine Drivers Edition, the brand’s first skeletonised chronograph, and the Streamliner Alpine Mechanics Edition, a purpose-built smartwatch, Moser’s first, created with the needs of an F1 team in mind.

Together, they offer a rare duality: analogue elegance meets digital precision, each rooted in performance.

While many automotive collaborations result in aesthetic tributes, Moser’s latest venture is something else entirely.

The Mechanics Edition is a tool engineered for the track. Built in partnership with Swiss smartwatch maker Sequent, it offers race-specific functionality and is already in use by Alpine’s operations team.

The Drivers Edition, by contrast, is a high-end mechanical celebration of form and function. Developed with Alpine’s drivers, it showcases the new skeletonised HMC 700 calibre, created in partnership with Agenhor.

The movement, visible through an open dial and caseback, features racing-inspired elements: V-shaped bridges reminiscent of suspension arms, and a central bridge shaped like a racing helmet.

The Streamliner Alpine Drivers Edition

Minimalist in layout but maximal in intent, the Drivers Edition dispenses with subdials and instead focuses on legibility and speed.

Central minutes and seconds hands, along with a flyback chronograph function, make it both intuitive and track-ready.

The steel case has been treated in Alpine blue PVD, complemented by a white rubber strap. The luminous hands and hour markers are made from Globolight, ensuring visibility even in the chaos of the pit lane.

It’s a striking take on Moser’s signature design language, one that feels modern without abandoning its mechanical soul.

Moser’s first smartwatch is a serious departure, but no less refined. At rest, it appears quietly analogue, with a small domed fumé dial and a near-invisible digital display.

When active, that screen reveals a host of features tailored for racing: GMT with country selector, a 1/100th-second chronograph, perpetual calendar, and a Formula 1 mode with real-time alerts and countdowns.

Bluetooth connectivity allows for seamless syncing with iOS and Android, though the watch is fully functional on its own.

Power reserve stretches to a year in passive mode, or up to six race weekends when fully active; a nod to durability in a space often dominated by short-lived tech.

While limited in production, the Mechanics Edition isn’t just for collectors. It will be used throughout the 2025 F1 season by Alpine’s engineers and pit crew.

Both timepieces will be sold as a set, housed in a custom presentation box. Only 200 pairs will be produced, priced at CHF 59,000.

A collector’s piece? Certainly. But also a study in how watchmaking and motorsport can truly merge, not in theory, but in practice.
