Jean Tinguely's 100th Birthday Celebrated in Style at Solitude Park
Today, the city of Basel honours what would have been the 100th birthday of Swiss artist Jean Tinguely with a vibrant public celebration.
Taking place this evening from 6 pm at Solitude Park, in front of Museum Tinguely, the centenary party invites all to enjoy a unique blend of art, performance and community spirit.
Highlights of the evening include the launch of the Art Ghost Train Scream Machines, a quirky nod to Tinguely’s kinetic sculptures, alongside hands-on artistic activities.
A lively atmosphere will be fuelled by live music from Los Boozan Dukes and DJ ieva, as well as an array of inventive food and drink options like Vélo Cocktail and Crêpe Automaat.
An official welcome will begin at 6:30 pm, featuring speeches by dignitaries including Dr Severin Schwan, Beat Jans, and Dr Conradin Cramer, joined by artist Rebecca Moss and Museum Tinguely director Roland Wetzel. Sign language interpretation will be provided.
The evening will culminate in the ceremonial cutting of a birthday cake at around 9 pm.
With free entry and no booking required, the event promises a joyful tribute to a legendary figure in modern art.
